Why would my bird need a Hide
N Sleep? Hide N Sleep provides a
reliable shelter. A private, secure place can reduce stress and
help a bird's attitude. Your bird should not be "on display"
constantly. We teach in our wildlife programs that FOOD, WATER,
and SHELTER are the basic necessities of life. What is usually
missing from our pet bird's environment is Shelter. Shelter is
not just a cage, nor a part-time cage cover but a safe haven from
everyday things that is always available to them.

What size Hide N Sleep should
I get for my bird? Based
on average bird sizes and common cage space the
Size Guide on our Products
and Pricing Page should help you select the best size Hide N Sleep for your bird. It
should "fit" your bird comfortably allowing room for the tail, too. If
you find your parrot is between sizes, consider the bird's behavior.
If it really likes to snuggle, go with the smaller size. If you think
additional play room for chew toys is more appropriate for your "toy nut",
choose the larger one. Still not sure? Contact us for
assistance with your particular birds.
We want you and your parrots to be happy!

Front or Side Door Cover
Design - Why 2 different openings and which do I choose?
Again we believe in choices for parrots. The Front Door opening
refers to the cover opening being on the short side of the base rectangle of
the Hide N Sleep. The Side Door is on the long Side. For
example a Medium HNS has a 7"x11" base. Front would be on the 7" side,
Side on the 11". Placement in the cage is one deciding factor.
Picture where in the cage the Hide N Sleep will go, how it will fit best.
and where the perch access will be. The Front Door provides a deeper
roosting area yet is good for curious birds who want to sit in the doorway
and peek out at the world. The Side Door gives more privacy to shy
birds who may want to lay across the back of the Hide N Sleep and watch the
door opening. It may not matter to some birds and they'll enjoy
whichever you choose for them. But do keep these considerations in
mind when choosing for your parrot.

Will the Hide N Sleep take up
too much room in the cage? No,
don't think of it that way. Realize that the Hide N Sleep actually
becomes part of the bird's cage environment. That same portion of
space is still there, it just becomes a covered room within the same cage.
Be sure however, that your current cage is already an appropriate size for
your specific type of bird(s).

What is difference between Hide N
Sleep and other tent-like enclosures? Sunrise
Solutions' patented Hide N Sleep is not only the First "room within a cage"
but we pride ourselves on the quality of our products, the safety that went
into design and construction and our anticipation that parrots may chew
things!
Being the first to realize parrots needed this type of habitat, we took our
time with design and materials. It surprises some people how long a
Hide N Sleep can last! But, since all birds are different remember we
do also offer replacement parts so that you do not have to buy the entire
unit every time your bird gets chew happy! Maintaining the Hide N
Sleep by proper washing/drying and adding replacement parts as needed keeps
it safer for your parrots. Please see our
Comparison
chart which will answer your question more fully with important details.

Is a flat surface okay for my
bird? Yes and it is actually beneficial, especially for
birds with foot problems related to gripping. Also, in the wild, birds
are free to choose all types, sizes and textures of foot surfaces, including
flat areas. Our birds should have the luxury of that Choice, too.
Some parrots actually prefer to relax on a flat surface instead of having to
constantly grip perches.

What is the bottom of the Hide N Sleep, is it fabric or just a hard board?
The bottom of the Hide N Sleep is neither fabric,
board or cardboard. It IS made of textured, high density polyethylene;
the same material that safe human baby toys are
made of. The Hide N Sleep floors and ceilings (as well as other parts)
DO NOT contain any polyvinyl chloride or phthalates. The floors are, as are
other components of the HNS, replaceable should you need extra parts and
completely washable.

Won't my bird just stay
inside the Hide N Sleep and not come out?
Generally No. A healthy bird will use the Hide N Sleep as a private
retreat. (A known ailing bird will most likely spend more time inside
its HNS to comfortably recuperate and that can be good; be sure to know via
your avian vet if there is a problem first.) A normal parrot will naturally
come out to see YOU, eat, play, etc. Some circumstances can however
motivate a parrot to stay inside the Hide N Sleep for longer than normal
periods of time. For instance when I, Sunrise, have a parrot sitter, I
spend more time inside my Hide N Sleep than normal, pouting till MY people
return!

If my bird wants to hide,
does that mean the bird is ready to breed?
No, not necessarily. It's a myth that only breeding birds seek to
crawl into chambers. Parrots are a prey species and appreciate a place
to hide. Another myth is that only Conures like to hide and tunnel.
All birds share the same instincts related to Territory, roosting places,
fight or flight Privacy and benefit from a private enclosure within their
habitat, year round.

Will my bird destroy a Hide N
Sleep? Generally no, however we know parrots will be
parrots. A vast majority of our customers are pleasantly surprised
that their birds do not destroy their Hide N Sleep. Perhaps because
they enjoy it so much. For our customers with birds that like to
remodel everything, we do offer suggestions on preserving their Hide N
Sleeps. AND, then there's always our Replacement Parts. ALL
Hide N Sleep parts are sold separately to keep the unit safer. No need
to buy the whole thing again if you don't really need to. We want you
and your parrots to be happy!

available? See

Can more than one bird share
a Hide N Sleep? Yes, but you know your parrots best.
IF they get along and already share the same cage, roosting area and toys,
test out a shared Hide N Sleep with them. Some birds may still prefer
to have their own.
